CHANDIGARH: Somnath and Sarvesh, students of mechanical engineering from Indo Global Colleges have designed an economic wheelchair for paraplegic persons or persons with orthopaedic disabilities.
The chair is powered by two re-chargeable battery operated motors. For smooth operation and trouble free power transmission, a compound gear train is installed in the centre, as well as to give extra edge of dynamic balancing to wheel chair.
"The chair has been ergonomically designed for more comfort and safety of the passenger. For easy control, switches are installed on the arm of chair and the patient can move from one place to another without any assistance," said Somnath. "In case of any type of fault in chair, it can be easily manually operated. Light weight material is used for the main body of the chair," added Sarvesh.
Congratulating the students and the faculty, chairman Sukhdev Singla motivated them to make such projects for the benefit of the society. He further added that this chair would improve quality life of disabled as due to its economic price it is great relief as it comes at a much reasonable cost.
